A revenge tragedy (or revenge play) is defined as, "a tragedy in which a murder victim is avenged, often by a younger kinsmen, and usually resulting in the death of both murderer and avenger" (Wikipedia). Certain qualities of a revenge tragedy make me think of the famous William Shakespeare play, "Hamlet". Qualities of a revenge play that are apparent in "Hamlet" are a ghostly visitation, a period of plotting, an eruption of general violence, and a catastrophe that decimates the dramatis personae.
A tragedy of the commons is defined as, "an economics theory, according to which individuals, acting independently and rationally according to each one's self-interest, behave contrary to the whole group's long-term best interests by depleting some common resource" (Wikipedia). Basically, tragedies of the commons relate a lot to our earth and nature. Common dilemmas in our society today include things like deforestation and fishing sea creatures before breeding season. Another example is wasting non-renewable energy sources like oil and coal.
