In this article, professor Mary Stange writes about religion and politics. The idea that there is a separation between the two topics, as stated in the constitution, is argued. Stange makes the point that it's quite impossible to separate the two, since they indirectly go hand in hand. This is displayed when Stange says:
"As much as we Americans pride ourselves on the First Amendment’s separation of church and state, a quick scan of contemporary news events shows the intermixture of religious and civil interests to be every bit as murky in our own society as it was in ancient Greece, and the clash of religious and civil responsibilities remains as heated as it was for Sophocles’s Antigone and Creon."
Stange clearly states that after just a quick check up on current news events, it's apparent that one cannot separate religion and politics. Our opinions on politics are formed through our moral and religious beliefs, whether we realize it or not. I strongly believe that we cannot have political views without what we believe is right morally. In this article, Stange uses different examples in supporting that religion and politics are closely related. After reading and analyzing her article, I definitely agree wit her.
