This week, we watched MacBeth in class and explored how it connects to our mythological/archetypal critical theory. This helped us in starting to think about how we were going to approach the project. The movie itself was somewhat confusing to me. It was difficult trying to figure out which characters were which and the motifs of each of them. The group discussion we had with Mr. Schoenborn afterwards really helped me in understanding what we had just watched! I enjoy how we do a lot of group work in this class. I feel like working with my peers helps me understand the material at the perspective of another student, rather than an adult. Bouncing ideas off of my group members has been proven helpful in a lot of the other class activities and projects we've done, so using that same technique with this project is going to be especially helpful since the play can be quite confusing.
My group has been talking about what the focus of our project is going to be and how we're going to carry it out. Connecting our critical theory of mythological/archetypal to MacBeth has been taking us longer than I thought it would. Our main focus is going to be on the witches, and the impact they have on the rest of the characters. We are currently in the process of forming a thesis and figuring out exactly what we're going to do, but we are planning on figuring all that out when we get back from break!
