This week we worked on our Shakespearean drama projects with our groups. I thought it really helped in understanding the project to have the whole week to work. Giving us so much class time allowed us to ask Mr. Schoenborn any questions we had. My group took the approach of forming a thesis and general structure of the essay, and then using that to form an outline of the powerpoint. Right now we are about to start actually transferring our ideas from paper to the computer for the powerpoint, since we're all together right now. This weekend we're going to right each of our body paragraphs, and then when we come back together on Tuesday we're going to put them together and work as a group on the intro and conclusion.
After days of changing the structure and central ideas of our project, we finally decided to focus on MacBeth as a tragic hero. The play is MacBeth with the critical lens of mythological/archetypal. Our thesis is composed of the ideas of how MacBeth is born of nobility (high stature), his tragic flaw, and how he is influenced by outside factors. So far we've only found one song to go with our project, and it's "Glory and Gore" by Lorde. It matches really well! Lorde as an artist is generally pretty dark and kind of creepy so it meshes well with the idea we are going for. The "Who has he been, who is he now, and who will he become?" part of the project is going to be really cool to relate to MacBeth! We are planning on using this to summarize the tragic journey that MacBeth endured.
