This week we continued to work on our This I Believe projects. My project is "I believe passion derives from inspiration". I did this by relating it to how my passion for art was inspired by my Aunt Joanie an Uncle Dean. We started recording our voices for the videos this week, and of course I'm sick! I put it off for a couple days because I didn't want to sound all stuffed up and gross, but I tried recording a couple paragraphs. I might just end up redoing them all this weekend since I'm feeling a lot better today! However with the few paragraphs I did record, I found it was surprisingly hard to have a conversational tone.
Trying to force yourself to have a conversational tone does the complete opposite for you. The harder you try the more it sounds monotone and scripted. I found it really difficult to make it sound casual because I'm naturally a pretty fast talker. When I tried to record myself like the way I talk, it was kind of hard to follow since I was speaking so fast. But when I tried to slow down it just sounded scripted and monotone. I'm having trouble trying to find the happy medium between fast and casual, and slow and scripted. The conversational tone is the most difficult part of the project for me. With an objective tone it's really easy to use fancy words and purposely word things to sound nice and professional. It's so much different that a conversational tone! I approached the essay by just retelling my story in my head, while I typed out what I was thinking.
Personally I'm not good with technology at all. I'm nervous about starting to edit my video because I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing! Mr. Schoenborn's quick tutorial might've seemed obvious and pointless to some people, but for a technology-challenged person like me it was extremely helpful! I like how he showed up basic ways to edit your videos, but went into detail about each basic element. He made it seem pretty easy to work with wevideo, which is the program I'm going to use. If I tried using any other program I'd probably have too many questions to count and Mr. Schoenborn wouldn't be able to help me! So naturally, the logical thing to do for someone who doesn't know how to do anything on the computer, is to use wevideo.
