This week we continued our This I Believe presentations since we had a couple of unexpected snow days last week. For me, these presentation days have been the highlight of AP Lit so far this year! They were really interesting and I loved learning new things about my peers that I have gone to school with since elementary school. Everyone did an exceptionally good job, and I was so impressed! Each one caught my attention and were really entertaining. I was surprised that people were willing to share such personal experiences with the rest of the class. Writing about things like depression suicidal thoughts, bullying, eating disorders, and psych wards is not an easy thing by any means. I absolutely loved how everyone's videos turned out and was truly impressed by the authenticity of them.
We are starting to go into a new project to wrap up the trimester. We're going to do a PechaKucha style presentation, to compare our SSR books from both marking periods through our chosen critical lens. The critical lens that I chose was self confidence. I haven't finished my second independent reading book yet, but the first book I read really fit my critical lens. This made the FRQ for that book fairly easy to write about. PechaKucha style presentations are basically like a regular slideshow except they make each slide 20 seconds long. Each slide transitions automatically, rather than manually switching from slide to slide. This will be interesting to see how everyone handles the presentation aspect. I think this will be an informal, fun way of presenting to the class. It'll be funny to see people still wanting to talk about a slide but it switches, or having nothing else to say about a slide and it not switching. I'll probably be one of those people who won't be able to time it out right! It'll give the class a good laugh though.
